There is a global paradigm shift towards Competency Based Education and Training. The adoption of the new curriculum in Kenya has witnessed its launch at the lower education levels and currently at Grade 7 and higher educational institutions in a few years to come will embrace it too. Since the idea of adopting a competency-based curriculum was conceptualized at the time it was launched in Kenya,
Moi High School Kabarak has prepared its teachers to implement it when it finally transits to senior school in 2026. Induction by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development was conducted for all teachers in 2022. Being the implementers of the curriculum, teachers have been prepared adequately and equipped in terms of knowledge, attitude and skills for easy acceptability. The competency-based curriculum aims at equipping learners with 21st-century competencies; communication, collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, imagination, digital literacy, self-efficacy and learning to learn.
For the smooth implementation of a competency-based curriculum, the school has equipped its teachers with technological skills. Digital literacy is one of the crucial competency areas that are emphasized in the competency-based curriculum.
Since CBC is learner-centered, sufficient teaching, learning resources and large class sizes have been set aside to execute CBC with precision. The school has prepared itself to meet the demands of the new curriculum through the establishment of modern classrooms, modern dormitories, modern science laboratories, a modern library, and technological gadgets such as laptops, computers and projectors among others.
Moi high school Kabarak will be pursuing studies in its senior school majoring in Science Technical Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). In addition, Arts & Sports Science and Social Sciences shall also be offered.
